new System Dynamics group is being formed in Morocco at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). UM6P is hiring a PhD in System Dynamics to anchor the group and lead some of the exciting initiatives they have planned, including:

* Becoming a center of competence for System Dynamics in Africa
* Developing interactive tools for agriculture, climate change, and policymaking (collaboration with Climate Interactive)
* Holding workshops (in English) for students, faculty, and mid-career leaders in System Dynamics and systems thinking.

UM6P is growing on its new campus in Ben Guerir, Morocco (https://um6p.ma). Their technical, business, and policy schools aim to improve lives in Morocco and across Africa.

** Assistant Professor @ UM6P **

** Description of UM6P **

Located in the heart of the future Green City Mohammed VI Ben Guerir, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P)(https://um6p.ma), institution of higher learning with an international vocation, is committed to an education system based on the highest standards in education and research in critical areas for sustainable economic development in Morocco and more broadly in Africa.

** Description of the Research Group **

UM6P is starting a System Dynamics Group at the university with a goal of being a center of excellence in System Dynamics in Africa soon. The group will integrate the System Dynamics methodology into the fabric of the university. Students graduating from the UM6P should have exposure to systems thinking and System Dynamics, no matter their specific focus of study. The System Dynamics Group will apply the methodology to topics including agriculture, water and environmental issues, industrial operations, economic policy while adopting sustainability approach to go towards SDGs.

The System Dynamics Group will be building from some initial System Dynamics activities and projects. To date, UM6P has held trainings on campus for faculty, staff, OCP employees and students. In addition, the university, in partnership with Climate Interactive, has developed a first sustainable agriculture policy model and is engaging multiple governments in Africa to help making Africa more food-secure in the future.

** Responsibilities of the Position **

The Assistant Professor position is intended to advance UM6P’s teaching and research in System Dynamics modeling and simulation with applications in the above-mentioned fields.

Responsibilities:

* Develop and deploy dynamic models using System Dynamics. Experience in other techniques either in support of System Dynamics modeling or as additional capabilities are highly desirable. This includes Econometrics, Agent-based Modeling, Optimization, and Structural Equation Modeling.
* Support the development of new System Dynamics projects in areas including environmental sustainability, supply chains, and markets.
* Support the improvement of the agriculture policy model
* Communicate and present modeling insights to policy makers, business leaders, and students in a way that provides valuable insight for decision-making and policy formulation.
* Conduct rigorous testing that brings confidence and promote adoption of System Dynamics models.
* Contribute to the external reputation of UM6P by publishing articles and presenting work at appropriate conferences.

** Candidate Profile: **

* The ideal candidate would demonstrate a computationally-driven, cross-disciplinary approach to modeling human behavior as it relates to solving practical problems in areas such as politics, health, education, economics, ecology, energy, culture, security, or any other human endeavor.

Qualified applicants should have the following skills:

* PhD degree in System Dynamics.
* Ability to engage with stakeholders to identify the core dynamic issue, capture their mental models, and develop a System Dynamics model.
* Experience teaching System Dynamics, preferably in a variety of formats (week-long and semester-long)
* Proficiency in a mainstream System Dynamics modeling tool, such as Vensim. Additional experience in statistical tools such as R, Python, Matlab, GMT is desirable.
* Ability to translate complex quantitative methods into easily understood results and recommendations.
* Ability to work independently but collaboratively across the university, and with remote project partners.

Please Note: Candidates must be fluent in English as course instruction at UM6P is conducted in English.
